Tips for Searching

You can search for any article published by Lancaster Newspapers, Inc. (Intelligencer Journal, Lancaster New Era, Sunday News) since August 15, 1989.
- Enter a keyword or phrase in the box under "Search For" by clicking
your mouse inside the box and then typing. (Your keyword/phrase can
be anything that helps you find the article you are looking for -- a
name; a place; an event, etc.)
- Select the search option you want to use -- "Match any of these words,"
"Exact Phrase" or "Boolean Search". Boolean Search allows you to use
the words AND, OR and NOT.
*"Match any of these words" can give you one or all of the words
you typed. For example, if you typed "Bob Smith" and entered a "Match
any of these words" search, you would get results for "Bob Smith"
articles, as well as "Bob Jones" articles and "Ann Smith" articles.
An Exact Phrase search on "Robert Smith" will give you results on
"Robert Smith" without the other extra articles listed above. But
it will not give you articles mentioning "Bob Smith".
A Boolean Search allows you to use the words AND, OR and NOT. If
you did a search for "Bob Smith" OR "Robert Smith" you would get articles
for both Bob and Robert Smith.
- Select the time frame of publication by clicking on the arrows at
the right of the shaded box under the heading "Find articles that were
published". When you click on the arrows, a drop-down menu appears.
Scroll down until you find the date you wish to select. Then click on
it.
- Click "Search".
