LANCASTER COUNTY OFFICES

     The Lancaster County Courthouse, at the corner of Duke and Orange Streets (50 N. Duke Street), was completed in 1977. It contains not only the courtrooms and offices connected with the courts, but also the county commissionersoffice, and offices where one may go to register to vote, obtain a marriage license, apply for a passport, have deeds recorded or wills registered, report for jury duty, and obtain hunting, fishing, and dog licenses.

     The old courthouse, located at the corner of Duke and King Streets (mailing address 50 N. Duke street) was occupied in 1852 and last renovated in 1981; it houses such offices as Archives and Records Management, the Law Library, and the juveniles division of Probation and Parole.

     At 900 E. King St. Conestoga View, the County Home and Hospital is the dominant facility, but The property also provides space for Barnes Hall (the your detainment center), the Children and Youth Social Service Agency, the voting machine building, and the Data Processing Department.

     The County Prison is the fortress-like building bounded by East King, North Franklin, East Orange and North Marshal Streets. The most recent renovation of the building was completed in 1992, expanding the capacity for inmate services and house to some 953. Inmate population in 1996 was over 800. On an annual basis there are some 5,000 admissions with 65% there awaiting trail. Other county offices are located at various sites throughout the county.
