Private Elementary and Secondary Schools

The Roman Catholic Church operates six elementary schools in Lancaster County, with a total enrollment of more than 1,700. Three schools are in the City of Lancaster, two in Columbia, and one each in Rohrerstown, Elizabethtown, and Ephrata.

In addition, Lancaster Catholic High School serves about 700. Lancaster Mennonite schools include 11 elementary schools with 2,500 students and a high school for over 800 students.

Numerous other non-public and independent schools, many of them operated by churches, are scattered throughout the county. Lancaster Country Day School is a college preparatory school with grades kindergarten through twelve, and Linden Hall, primarily a boarding school, provides education for girls in grades six through twelve.

For students of high potential who have specific learning disabilities such as dyslexia, the Janus School in Mount Joy, a nonprofit organization, offers individualized classes and activities aimed at helping students to succeed in any academic setting.
