Sports and Recreation

     Lancaster County Central Park, along the Conestoga River, is a major recreational area, with a swimming pool, a skate park, picnic facilities, tennis courts, baseball fields, camping facilities, nature trails and the services of a park naturalist, a Garden of Five Senses, and play areas for children.

     Other county recreation areas include Chickies Rock, Money Rocks, and Speedwell Forge County Parks, Conewago and Lancaster Junction recreation trails, Theodore Parker Natural Area, and the Mill Creek campground.

     The Lancaster Recreation Commissions professional staff administers summer playground recreation programs, boysand girlsrecreation clubs, basketball leagues, sports and crafts instruction, day camps, and related activities. Programs for adults include volleyball, basketball, and aerobic dance.

     In addition, the Recreation Commission sponsors a variety of activities for older adults, including the Happy Hours Club. The Lancaster Hiking Club and the Lancaster Road Runners Club both attract area hikers.

     Other centers with broad programs of cultural, educational, and recreational activities include the Community Action Program, with drop-in centers for older adults throughout the county, East Petersburg Teen Center, Elizabethtown Area Community Center, Ephrata Recreation Center, the Lititz Community Center, the Jewish Community Center, the YMCA, the YWCA, the GirlsClub of Lancaster, and the BoysClub of Lancaster. The county also contains numerous other parks, swimming pools, bowling centers, golf courses, a tennis and riding club, a bicycle club, skating rinks, and organized baseball for all ages.
